Water as % of TOW: 36% - no discount 2% superfat in cook for safety - 8% superfat after cook Hybrid soap: KOH 7%, NaOH 93% Sea Island Cotton fragrance oil from Nature's Oils - 2oz - plus 0.05oz clove bud oil (1.4g) Teal and yellow swirls in white soap 1. WEIGH BASE OILS INTO MEASURING BOWL AND ADD TO STOCK POT ON LOW-MEDIUM BURNER WITH 1.5T ZINC OXIDE to whiten soap 3. WEIGH 17.2oz WATER INTO LYE-WATER PITCHER (NO Water discount) 4. WEIGH/MEASURE POST-COOK ADDITIVES: PCSF: 8% superfat added after saponification - 4.48oz minus 2oz fragrance oil = 2.48oz superfat oils, (jojoba and castor) plus 1.2oz cetyl alcohol melted into the superfats, keep warm WATER/ LIQUID: 3.25oz coconut milk, 2.8oz (5% TOW) sodium lactate, 2oz sorbitol, 1.2oz (2%TOW) citric acid, heat and mix to melt, keep warm. FRAGRANCE: Measure fragrance oil, add 0.05oz (1.4g) clovebud oil, mix in 2T kaolin clay as scent fixative, mix well, cover, keep warm For color designing, melt 2oz of M&P glycerine soap for each color, stir in colorant, keep warm COOK: When oils near 210°, turn burner off, put on apron, gloves and face shield Under hood fan, measure 1oz-28g KOH ---and--- 8.3oz-235g NaOH Add lyes to water pitcher while stirring - stir until lye is dissolved Blend oils briefly to blend in stearic acid and zinc oxide, then NOTE TIME AND TEMPS: Pour lye-water slowly into oils, begin immersion blending, noting times and temperatures of stages: Time: 2:05 Temp oils: 204° Temp lye-water: 219° Immediate emulsion Stiff trace: 2:08/220° Separation: 2:09/231° First expansion time: 2:09/233° Gel starting: 2:11 Temp: 212° Gel Complete: 2:14 Temp: 209° After post cook additives: Time: 2:14 pH: ________ Molded: Time: 2:24 pH: ____9____ BEHAVIOR NOTES: Pretty calm, no wild expansions. Soap is still not as fluid as I'd like for pretty designs. Raise water to 38% or more of TOW for this formula, in the future. Bars are rather rustic looking for this batch. 9 minutes to soap safe enough to handle. 19 minutes from pouring the lye-water into the oils until the soap was molded and swirled. AFTER COOK: When soap has mostly or fully gelled, heat and add PCSF, liquids and fragrance, mix well and transfer soap to hot mixing bowl. Make little “puddles” of colors on the top of the soap with the frother, dropping in a third of each colored M&P soap. Use the frothing attachment to spread the color down into the soap, but not to mix in the color. Alternate the colors, 3 puddles of each color. Fold the colors into the soap a few times, up from the bottom and over the top, like making an angel food cake, then pour into two molds, Hanger swirl in the molds, scrape the bowl and add to tops of molded soap or pour into overflow mold.
