Cold Process 1st attempt
Solid Soap · NaOH · 38 g oil load · 5% superfat · 3 views · 0 saves
The day before soapmaking you need to make your white kaolin clay slurry. This is done by mixing 1 T of Koalin clay per pound of oils to the fragrance oil to anchor the scent to prevent the fragrance oil from evaporating during the cure process. October 6th 2022 used Coastal Rain with Bramblerry scent 2.5 total ounces anchored In 2 T. cornstarch. Results= I should not have used the stick blend as much as I did. It thickened quickly but was workable. Scent may be too strong. Forgot to swirl soap but the soap was ready to remove from the mold and be cut after 12 hours in the mold. October 7th 2nd batch using lemongrass and peppermint essential oils. Anchored the scent using cornstarch again. Ordered the koalin clay. Pre measure all ingredients. Solid oils in a pan. Liquids oils separately. Water in a heat proof container. Lye in another container. Add the lye to the water stir well. Melt the hard oils in a pan on very low heat. Add the olive oil and castor oil together and stir well. Take the pan of oils off the stove and put in a big bowl and place onto a pot holder. Measure the the temps of the lye water and the oils. You should aim to cool them both be about 95-100 degrees F. When temperatures are in range pour the sodium lactate into the lye mixture stir then add the lye mixture (through a sieve to catch any potential dissolved lye) into the oils Dip your immersion blender into the bowl and with it turned off stir the mixture. With both hands put the blender into the Middle of the bowl and blitz it for just a couple of seconds. Turn it off and stir the soap batter, using the blender as a spoon. Repeat until the batter reaches a light trace. At this point you may add color to your soap and stir with a spoon or spatula until well blended. Add the fragrance and stir then pour into your mold
