WEIGH BASE OILS INTO MEASURING BOWL AND ADD TO CROCK TURNED ON HIGH 3. WEIGH _________oz WATER INTO LYE-WATER PITCHER 4. WEIGH/ MEASURE POST-COOK ADDITIVES PCSF: 8% superfat added after saponification - 3.85oz minus ________oz fragrance oil = _________superfat oils, plus 1oz cetyl alcohol melted into the superfats, keep warm WATER/ LIQUID: 5oz coconut milk, 2.4oz (5% TOW) sodium lactate, 2oz sorbitol, 1oz (2%TOW) citric acid, and 2T sugar mixed together and heated to melt sugar, keep warm. NOTE TIME AND TEMPS: Time: ______________ Temp oils: ____________ Temp lye-water: _______________ Pour lye-water slowly into oils while blending, noting times: Stiff trace: ____________ Separation: ____________ Expansion: _____________ Gel: _____________ pH: ____________ Behavior notes: 040826 - White Tea & Ginger, Nature's Oils - White with Green & Coral Swirls - First trial of this formula - oils cooled a lot when I transferred from the crock pot to the giant stock pot - Lye-water poured into oils 4:12 pm Lye-water 210° Oils 175° - Stick blended 1 minute, hard mashed potato texture, rested 3 minutes - 4:15, stick blended, emulsion broke, Temp 224°, and then big expansions for a couple of minutes - 4:19 completely gelled 210° pH 10 - Added PCSF, fragrance, liquid additives - Fragrance may have stiffened the soap somewhat, or I may have discounted the water a little too much - Had to rush to get the colors in and lots of hardened soap on everything. 040926 - Lemongrass & Spearmint - Handcraft Oils- Plain Yellow - 2nd try with this formula - discounted liquid additives from lye-water - Poured lye-water into oils at 2:23 ' Oils 180° Lye-water 218° - immediate mashed potato texture- blended 1 minute, rested 2-3 minutes, blended again - first expansion came out of stiff soap at 2:26, and a minute later, a full expansion which filled the stock pot and lasted about a minute, blending continuously - completely gelled at 2:30, pH 8-9 - molded by 2:40 - 17 minutes - Fragrance blend is nice 040926 - Ocean Breeze by Nature Oils - Plain Teal - 3rd try of this formula - not discounting water, this time - 15oz water - 8:11 poured lye-water into oils - Oils 210° Water 201° - 8:12 started blending, became very thick - continuous blending - separation 8:14 220° - Full expansion began 8:15 continued for 2 minutes - thinned and seemed to almost separate - stirred in PCSF and covered, completely gelled within a minute or two without more expansions - added liquids, stirred in, molded - forgot fragrance, unmolded, added fragrance and re-mixed, poured into a 2#, a 1# and four small rounds - color is much too strong. It was supposed to be natural soap with white and teal swirls but forgetting the fragrance resulted in mostly a solid color soap. Bars are hardening well 2-3 days later, scent softening, Increase recipe to 56oz to fill 2-2# molds Make 2oz glycerine soap for each color Remove mango from formula and add to lard and tallow weights, and don't discount water to get a more fluid, finished soap. This formula was not quite fluid enough for multicolor designs.
