Solid Soap · NaOH · 100 g oil load · 5% superfat · 3 views · 0 saves
Pour lye slowly into water (never the other way around), stir, and leave with spoon in it (do this before the oils because it takes longest to cool down) Measure all the oils and melt them on low Measure temps of the water/lye and the oils with separate thermometers When the oil and lye solutions are each around 100 degrees, slowly pour the lye solution into the oils . Aim for no more than 10 degrees difference, but it’s okay if the lye reaches room temperature. Stir for about the length of one song, pulsing occasionally with the stick blender When you are at a VERY light trace (when dribbling the mixture on top leaves a light visible line) then you can add fragrances and colorants Pour into mold and add texture, spray with isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash, and top with decorations Cover with a wood block and then wrap the mold in a towel to insulate Let it sit in the mold for at least 24 hours before unmolding and cutting. 48 hours is even better, just in case the batch came out in the soft side. Cure soap for 4-6 weeks Drop swirl: Measure 15oz for the color drop, and 30oz for the base Pour base in the mold Pour in the color from up HIGH back and forth, then high/medium over base color that got pushed up, and then low to cover the top Colors: 1 tsp powder per pound of soap (so 2 tsp for entire loaf) Always mix the color in a tbsp of olive oil before adding to mixture
