Shaving Bar Soap

mixed · 100 g oil load · 5% superfat · 3 views · 0 saves

This is easy to make. It fills 3 of the large plastic shaving containers perfectly. It seemed to cook fast to a zap free state. Use plain tap water. You can add an extra 3% Meadowfoam for extra oil superfat (22.5 grams), at the end with the 22.5 grams of fragrance oil (vanilla sandalwood). With this 3% Meadowfoam added, your true/end superfat is probably around 10+ percent superfat. TIP: Heat the stearic at 100% power for 2 minutes and check… proceed CAREFULLY keeping the temp no hotter than 160 degrees. Melt the Stearic Acid in the microwave and let it cool to 160 degrees. DON’T ADD THE SHEA BUTTER AND STEARIC ACID AT FIRST. AND MAKE SURE THE SOAP BATTER IS AT ~150 DEGREES WHEN YOU DO. NO HOTTER!!! This is due to the Shea Butter graininess if it is heated hotter than 160-degrees. Once the Palm oil, Castor oils are heated to 150 degrees in the crock pot, stir in the solid shea butter and stir until fully melted. Tip: If shea butter gets too hot it has a tendency to become grainy. Stirring the butter into the heated oils melts it at a lower temperature, avoiding the grainy texture all together. Put the lye in with the water outdoors due to the odor/fumes. When it cools down, add it to the oils, including the stearic acid and stir like crazy. At that point, the soap will instantly firm up due to the stearic acid reacting with the lye. Finish the recipe with a hot process soap cook until the soap is zap free. Once cook is done, LET THE BATTER COOL TO 140 DEGREES AND STIR IN THE F.O. AND 3% (22.5 grams) of Meadowfoam or Castor Oil for the extra superfat.
