Switching Soap Calculators

Soapee closed, MMS shut down, and the classic calculators still don't save your work. Here's what happened — and how to move your recipes somewhere that keeps them.

The soap-calculator landscape has thinned out. If a tool you relied on is gone or has changed, here is the state of each — and the simplest way to move your recipes to a calculator that actually saves them.

What happened to Soapee?

Soapee.com was decommissioned on 30 April 2024. Its recipe database went with it, so anything saved only on Soapee is no longer retrievable. The fix is to rebuild those recipes in a tool that stores them to your account, so a single site shutdown never wipes your formulas again.

What happened to MMS / Majestic Mountain Sage?

Majestic Mountain Sage (thesage.com) closed as a company in 2025. Its lye calculator may still load, but it's unmaintained — no account, no saved recipes, no support.

SoapCalc.net — rebuilt, but still stateless

SoapCalc.net was rebuilt from the ground up in 2026 (mobile-friendly now, with JSON/PDF export). But its core limit is unchanged: no account, no saved recipes— the homepage literally says "No signup." Formulas vanish when you close the tab, and old saved-recipe links broke in the migration. If that's what you've outgrown, you want a tool built around saving.

How to move your recipe (any tool → SoapCalc)

  1. Open your old recipe (or export/print) and note each oil and its weight or percentage.
  2. Note your superfat, water setting, and lye type (NaOH for bars, KOH for liquid).
  3. Enter the oils in SoapCalc's calculator — the lye recalculates instantly.
  4. Save it to your account. Now you can name, duplicate, scale, and track it — permanently.

Why SoapCalc.app

SoapCalc keeps the accurate NaOH/KOH and SAP math you expect, and adds what the classic calculators never did: saved recipes, ingredient inventory, batch and cost tracking, and cure tracking — free to start, ad-free. It's an independent tool, not affiliated with SoapCalc.net.
